It's March of 1997 and I read in Broadcasting that in April Drew Carey and other network shows are going to broadcast in 3-D!
Wow.
Now 3-D is a hobby of mine. And I know that the red/blue glasses they use for Television don't work worth a damn.
And Carey is doing the Red/Blue thing. It's a scam.
But, I think, "What an opportunity to cash in on the networks' silliness." Let's do our own, local, 3-D. |
So, there's this computer genius I work with. Kristi. And she knows how to make "killer" red/blue pictures on the computer screen.
Problem is, the red color in the NTSC (the standard for US TV) isn't pure. The NTSC image looks like shit compared to the computer image.
But I say "What the hey,"and invite our Director of Broadcasting to see a sample of the "crappy" stuff. She hasn't seen the computer images so she doesn't know how good it can be.
She is wowed by the "crappy" images. |
 I am home free.
So, I produce this historical documentary about a N.H. company, the Kilburn Brothers, who turned out millions of 3-D cards in the nineteenth century.
And we broadcast it.
And I wait like "Chicken Little" for the sky to fall. I expect the mail to say "you idiots, you ruined my night! What a scam!"
Instead, the mail is nearly all positive. Most people think their TV's weren't adjusted right.
They loved the show! What fun. |
